Dear Yaletown BIA Member,
It's begining to look a lot like Christmas! You'll be noticing some festive changes in Yaletown as we invite friends, shoppers and diners to Yaletown during this holiday season.
The YBIA is hosting our first ever gift wrap centre for your customers, staff and friends to bring in their gifts and have volunteers wrap them for a charitable donation. We will be gift wrapping on the last two shopping weekends before Christmas:
Dec. 13th, 14th, & 15th (Thursday - Saturday) Dec. 20th, 21st, & 22nd (Thursday - Saturday) from noon until 6 pm on all days.
With sponsorship from Canada Line and YBIA members, we will be raising money for our neighbourhood Yaletown House and for the Empty Stocking Fund. We are thrilled to announce that the Opus Hotel has gotten the ball rolling with a generous $200 donation to the Empty Stocking Fund. Yaletown thanks you, Opus Hotel.
The Gift Wrap Centre is conveniently located at the YBIA office at Hamilton and Drake (look for the giant decorated tree). Drop by and offer a kind word to volunteers and staff, who are willing to give the gift of their smiles and their time to our neighbourhood.
We are distributing postcards (with a map to locate the Gift Wrap Centre) to Yaletown businesses. We invite all merchants to hand these out to your customers and send them to the Yaletown Gift Wrap Centre for a festive dressing up on all their gifts. I Love Yaletown Shopping Bags ready for early distribution
The YBIA has a free gift for all of your customers! The new "I Love Yaletown" shopping bags are now available for you to give to your customers as a reminder that they are always welcome in Yaletown.
These high quality reusable bags are great for carrying purchases, lugging office work and even take-out items. We brought them in for our Spring '08 shopping promotion, but decided that an early release of a small quantity for the Holiday season was in order. Contact the office if you would like a few for your customers.
First Annual Yaletown Winter Word Play
To bring a little "naughty" to the season, we are launching our-web-based Winter Word Play contest. Specially designated "north pole" banners at Mainland and Helmcken have been erected to invite all of Yaletown to play.
We've created some humourous little reindeer wordplays and have posted our answers...but know well that Yaletown's amazing creative community can do much better to get the chuckle-o-meter going through the roof. Click here to enter and win a great Yaletown prize.
New seasonal Street Decorations
Our brand new Christmas banners of red and green Winterberry are now up in the Heritage District along Hamilton and Mainland. These are our first-ever seasonal banners, paid for by donations from film productions in Yaletown. We will be expanding their presence over the next few years.
Also on our street poles, red lights will glow with an accompanying snowflake to brighten things up at night. Due to the minimal power supply along Hamilton and Mainland, we are maxed-out on how much illumination we can install overall.
And finally, the trees in Bill Curtis Square have been strung with lights and over 500 feet of construction fencing in the Canada Line area have been decorated with wreaths and lights
Welcome to Yaletown
Ambassadors will be roaming the streets this holiday season, welcoming visitors and assisting them in finding parking, your business, ATM machines and the Yaletown Gift Wrap Centre for charity. Our visitor hosts provide a friendly face and helpful information to shoppers and diners, while bringing a street level security presence as well. Watch for them in their signature red uniforms.
