GETTING READY FOR 2010

Yaletown is outside of Security Zones

The YBIA recently met with the 2010 City Transportation Planning group as well as the Integrated Security Unit to determine the transportation impacts during with the 2010 Winter Games. We can confirm that all Yaletown businesses will continue to enjoy normal access to both their front and rear entrances, as well as street pedestrian access during the Games. Yaletown businesses will not be behind any security perimeters, nor will our primary streets of Homer, Nelson, Smithe, Cambie, Expo be affected by security planning. Pacific, Hamilton  and Mainland will be affected by pedestrian zone access (more on this later).  Security areas during the Games may be reassessed in the event of any security occurance. However, we advise all YBIA members to develop a contingency plan for their business, to assure business continuity in the event of a change in security closures during the Games.

Yaletown to benefit from $2 Million Olympic Legacy Grant

The grant is being used to bring much needed power upgrades to Hamilton and Mainland Streets and to install 40 new street and pedestrian lighting poles. Construction has already begun to install the conduit, pole platforms and power trenches, and should end soon. Watch for the new street poles to be installed in September. These improvements will be permanent and will long outlast the Games.
