Yaletown Business Improvement Association News

Dear Yaletown BIA Member,
Summer is upon us...and so we thought we'd update you on a few business issues before our Spring Marketing Report newsletter comes out next week. Until then...
Fighting for Lower Taxes
We are lobbying hard at City Council to have the commercial property taxes lowered, especially in areas affected by Canada Line construction. We have met with City Councillors, worked with and supported the Fair Tax Coalition, and presented letters from YBIA members directly to Mayor and Council. And we are having an effect. City Council has responded by reducing the tax increase on commercial properties by 1%. This translates into a saving for Yaletown businesses of over $390,000 this year. While your overall tax bill may increase, it will not be increasing by as much as the City had planned. Councillors are now openly discussing lowering the tax rate even further for commercial property owners, as well as streamlining or reducing the other costs of business permitting and licensing. Keep up to date with all Fair Tax Coalition news here

Ever been benched?
Check out the 'new' refurbished benches along the raised loading bays in the 1000 block of Mainland. The YBIA saved the benches from removal by the City, and has adopted these benches and refurbished them for the enjoyment of everyone. Have a seat!
